Two capitals of ice cream and cows, Vermont and Argentina are starting to exchange some of the products that have made each location famous.According to the Associated Press, Vermont farmers recently sold 50 frozen Holstein embryos to Argentina.Embryo sales are common in the cattle industry, and Vermont has some of the highest quality cows in the world without the high prices.Cow embryos sell for as much as 10,000 dollars each, but the embryos from Vermont were bought at only 600 dollars a piece. The sale took four years to complete and reflects the desire in Argentina to bolster cow lines, even on smaller farms. Now Vermont just needs to begin exporting Ben & Jerry’s and Argentina will have the best of Vermont to compliment its already excellent Freddo ice cream and steak.

After a massive oil spill off the coast of Montevideo, Uruguay, many penguins were rescued by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and treated.Yesterday, some of these penguins were released back to their home in Maldonado, Uruguay after being treated by veterinarians.According to Market Watch, The original spill was caused when two oil-tankers collided, causing 14,000 cubic meters of fuel oil to be poured into the ocean. This oil drifted towards Buenos Aires, endangering a large amount of South American wildlife.Seabirds are very vulnerable to oil—it destroyed their protective oils and causes them to have hypothermia when cold water penetrates their coats. Two Argentina organizations have been assisting IFAW: FMM (Fundación Mundo Marino) and FPN (Fundación Patagonia Natural).
