The creation of a Sustainable Tourism Stewardship Council (STSC) moves a step closer to becoming a reality as a coalition of international organisations agree to establish a body that increases credibility around sustainable tourism certification programmes, and ultimately helps protect the environment, rights and livelihoods of local communities. The United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and the United Nations Foundation are amongst the supporters of this initiative. As part of this joint scheme, they will work with the Rainforest Alliance, an international environment organisation, and other NGOs and industry groups, to raise funds, recruit stakeholders and launch the STSC in early 2009.

California Dreamin’…of Hawaii

California Dreamin’…of Hawaii

As great as southern California is, sometimes I’ve just got to get away. My favorite get-away is Hawaii, there’s no place better to unwind and enjoy paradise. It’s a totally easy flight, and in no time I’m laying on a beach, whale watching, trying out a surfboard, driving up a mountain or watching a gorgeous sunset. It’s such a relaxed, beautiful, healing place. Every time I’ve been there I can’t wait to go back. Like now.

To the Sea

To the Sea

Choosing a city to visit on the Adriatic Coast is like selecting from a fool-proof list. Pick Dubrovnik if you want Venetian splendor and great seafood. Choose Hvar if you want partying and the scent of lavender. This time, I decided on Zadar simply because it was close to Zagreb and I figured it would be hard to go wrong. After a long weekend of salty seas, many new freckles and full glasses of red wine, I wasn’t disappointed.

May 1st, 2008 by ben c

Hey everyone, I’m beginning to upload videos all over the internet about the Go Card. You can find them on YouTube, Flickr, and other popular sites. We’re not going to make you scour the web, though. I’ll post them right here! Check out this video about the Makani Catamaran. The promotional footage they gave us included some cheesy background commercial that I also heard on the television in a commercial for acne treatment. No way was I going to use the same music, especially since we’re only posting these videos to the internet. If you liked the video, leave a comment, or check out other Go Card videos at our YouTube page.

Bologna the Unwritten

Making the choice to move to Italy from San Francisco was not an easy one, but I knew the second I pulled my suitcase out of the closet that I was making the right decision. My empty luggage was hibernating patiently in the dark, but like a toothache it was a constant, dull and throbbing reminder I had been in one place for far too long. It was an insistent relic of where I’d been, and where I still wanted to go. I was accepted to a two-year Masters program, the initial portion located in northern Italy, and knew it was time to scratch the powerful itch to move, to see, to travel. So I packed my grey suitcase beyond the point of legal weight limits, lugged it across the ocean via Air France (which has touch screen on-demand movies… how far we’ve come), and landed in Bologna about a week ago.
