Famous Telenovela Lalola to become American Show

The telenovela Lalola is not a typical telenovela, which is probably why Fox wants to produce an English-language pilot of the show for U.S. audiences.No doubt they want to follow up on the success of imported shows like Ugly Betty, imported from Colombia.  The premise of the show is that one morning Lalo, a machista, extremely successful Argentine man, awakes to discover that he is a woman:Lola.He then must deal with the myriad challenges of being a woman in both the business and social world.The show began recently, in August 2007, and there had already been a derivative series released in Chile.Currently, Lalola is nominated in16 categories at the 2008 Martin Fierro Awards.They will be held later this month in Buenos Aires.

Magellenic penguins, the kind that live in southern Argentina and on the Malvinas Islands, are declining in number due to climate change and over-fishing.According to the New York Times, this trend has been observed by scientists over the last 30 years.Breeding pairs are down 22 percent and the birds must swim 40 extra miles a day to find their sources of food.The scientists are blaming over-fishing as well as global warming for these problems and argue that the deteriorating condition of penguins is a sign of trouble for the whole marine ecosystem.These penguins are popular with tourists in Southern Argentina, as are the whales that swim up the coast past the Valdez Peninsula.Protecting them is important but difficult, and affirming their importance through tourism is one of the many ways Argentines and foreigners cope with the problem.

Right now, Argentina is experiencing a boom in both the number of children attending casting calls as well as an increasing demand for children who work in acting and modeling.According to La Nación, more international producers are choosing Argentina to film their advertisements because of low production costs as well as the racial variety of the nation.The increase seems to be welcome, as children and their parents flock to casting calls, hoping for fame and the money that comes with it, often in American dollars.Like an adult actor, a child actor can make from 300 to 3,000 pesos simply by going to a call-back, making this a potentially life-style changing source of income for many families.

The long delayed and much awaited fifth season of “The Mole,” a reality t-show in which contestants work to accumulate money that only one of them will win, is currently shooting episodes in Argentina.According to Sea Coast Online, this season began filming in Chile and now, in episode five, the fight for a grand total of 500,000 dollars has moved on to Argentina.In this episode, contestants were chained together in an abandoned train station and had to work together to get the key to set themselves free.Ridiculous?Well, that all depends on how you feel about reality television.Regardless, the ridiculousness moves on next episode as contestants go to Mendoza and race to the Cerro de la Gloria statue, one of the city’s major monuments.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are a beloved band in Argentina, and today they placed for the first time in six years to a screaming crowd in Palmero.This band is considered to be one of the most important rock bands of the last twenty years. Formed in 1985, they have released an impressive 15 albums, mixing the styles of ska, rock, jazz, salsa, hip-hop, folk, and rap.Currently, the members of the band are working on personal projects, making this live show in Buenos Aires and extremely exciting event for its devoted fans.The show, which was outdoors, free, and took place at the Planetarium, was broadcast live at 6pm yesterday.The venue was packed and fans were packed shoulder to shoulder, jumping and rocking to the music.

California: Big Sur area vacation spots remain open

Big Sur area hotels, attractions and restaurants are still open while firefighters continue to work on containing the Basin Complex Fire.  Some California State parks remain closed. As of July 1, 2008, the majority of the fire continues to burn in a remote area of the Ventana Wilderness, 45 minutes drive south of Monterey, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Residents and visitors can access the iconic Big Sur stretch of California coastline via Highway 1 from Carmel.
