Perhaps it still seems a little premature to talk about the end of summer, but Intrepid Travel is already looking ahead to offer vacation packages for what will be the spring and summer in Argentina.According to a press release, Intrepid Travel has created a 17 day long trip through Argentina to Brazil.On the trip, that includes the cities of Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, travelers will travel by bus, train, ferry, and even on foot, enjoying the many facets of these great countries.Intrepid Travel has been a small tour operator for 19 years and has tours in 90 different locations around the world.Now they are offering a tour through Argentina and Brazil, responding to the growth in tourism that these two countries are currently experiencing.

On Saturday, Perez Celis died of leukemia in Otamendi sanitarium in Buenos Aires, the city in which he was born in 1939.Celis was one of Argentina’s most well known and respected contemporary artists; he did murals, paintings, and sculptures.One of his most recent projects was illustrating a Spanish translation of Walt Whitman’s great book of poems, Leave of Grass.Celis made his name known around the world, living in Lima, Caracas, Montevideo, Paris and New York.According to the Associated Press, his wake will be held at the club of his beloved Boca Juniors.Two of his murals decorate Boca’s stadium, where they can be seen by thousands of Argentines at every game of his favorite team.

On the last day of July, Cerro Catedral, Bariloche’s major ski slope, registered a record number of skiers in a single day: 13,023.These skiers are being heralded as the “true” start of the winter ski season, a refrain we have heard several times now as the snows keep coming and then not lasting.However, according to Diario Rio Negro, people in Bariloche are optimistic that the average number of skiers a day last year, 11,000, will begin to be met this year too.Another ski resort that is seeing its numbers improve is Chapelco, at San Martín de los Andes.Over the past weekend, number of skiers there exceeded the number they had last year by five percent.Skiing is a popular way for families to spend their winter vacations, and ski resorts can only hope that these excellent numbers continue throughout the month of August.

On Saturday at the golf course in Colorado Springs, Argentine golfer Eduardo Romero took the lead at the U.S. Senior Open.The 54-year-old golfer from Cordoba golfed birdies on the first three holes of the day, giving him a five-under-par 65 for the day and a nine-under total of 201 for the tournament.His finish on Saturday put him two strokes ahead.According to Reuters, Romero feels that winning the tournament would be important not only for him personally but for “Latin America and Argentina” as well.As one of several Argentine golfers who have stepped into the spotlight in the last several months, Romero feels proud to be representing his country far away from home.

This weekend, much of Argentina experienced a cold snap that brought low temperatures and snow to some southern parts of the country.According to the Clarín,in Buenos Aires on Sunday morning, temperatures were recorded at as low as 1.5 degrees Celsius.In Jujuy in the north, temperatures reached a low of negative 8.2 degrees Celsius; this was the coldest temperature recorded in the country during this cold snap.In the southern parts of the country, low temperatures brought snow with them as well, which is good news for skiers and snowboarders. It also snowed in cities in the Province of Buenos Aires, including Bahía Blanca and Coronel Dorrego.
