Tu-B’Avm, August 15th, is the equivalent of Jewish Valentine’s Day, and every year the Jewish youth of South America gather to meet one another and see if maybe they have any thing in common.This year, the Chabad of Argentina is hosted the four-day encounter at the San Bernardo tourist resort.The event attracted 300 Jewish students, ages 18-30, from Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Panama, and Brazil.At the conference, topics for discussion included Jewish marriage, dating, and interfaith-marriage, which the conference is seeking to minimize.There is also a speed-dating portion of the event, in which the participants get a quick look at what other Jews travelled from far, far away to meet each other.

Argentina’s first gold medal in the Beijing Olympic Games was won yesterday by Juan Esteban Curuchet and Walter Fernando Perez in cycling, specifically the track cycling event the “Madison.”According to La Voz, Curuchet is 43 years old and this is his final Olympic Games.This is also the first time he, or any Argentine, has won a medal in cycling.When he and Perez accepted the medals on the podium and heard the Argentine national anthem, they and their families in the audience all cried.In the race, Spain finished second behind Argentina and Russia finished third.The other events that Argentina is anticipating gold in are yet to come; they hope to reach the finals and win in field hockey, basketball, and soccer.

In the semi-final round of the Olympic Games, the Argentine and Braziliansoccer teams played in which many called the “real” gold medal game.Yesterday, Argentina soundly defeated Brazil 3-0, making them confident and eager for the gold medal match.According to the BBC, the game was tied 0-0 for a large part of the game.Then, in the 53rd minute, Sergio Aguero was able to put one into the net for Argentina and that sparked the other two Argentine goals that cemented their victory.The game was watched by thousands of Argentines, who sat in cafes and stood on sidewalks to get a view of a television.  In the gold medal game on Saturday, Argentina will face tough Nigeria, who just beat Belgium 4-1.

On August 29th, 30th, and 31st, Paloma Herrera will be performing with the Teatro ColonBallet and the National Symphonic Orchestra at Luna Park, in Buenos Aires.Herrera is an Argentine ballerina who was born in Buenos Aires and eventually received the highest qualification at theInsti­tute of Arts at the Teatro Colon.Now, she is the lead dancer for the American Ballet Company.According to her official website, she began dancing as their principle in 1995 at the age of 19—the youngest in the history of the American Ballet Company.Her return to her home country and city is a highly anticipated event and should be an excellent performance of the highest caliber.
