This year is the first year of ArteMultiplo, an art exhibition advertising itself as an art show aimed at bringing the “young,” from 25 to 40, into the world of art and specifically art consumption.Uniting artists, galleries, editorials, and cultural centers and asking them to contribute contemporary works of art or art criticism, the show will present a wide range of work from the modern art world.Mediums included in the show will be painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installations, and virtual reality.According to the official website, the event takes place at the Palais de Glace from August 28th until September 3rd and half of the ticket entry fees will be donated to charity.

Virgin Vacations has put together a flexible travel package to Buenos Aires for a six night stay.According to Travel Examiner, the package costs 1,349 dollars and includes airfare, a hotel, breakfasts, and a tour of the city.Prices may vary somewhere, depending of the exact departure city of the traveler and the hotel that they traveler chooses.The next departure of this six-day vacation is August 29th, but the deal runs throughout the rest of the year, stopping just before the holiday rush of mid-December.It picks up again in January at the slightly elevated price of 1,449 dollars.With fuel prices rising and spring beginning to come to Buenos Aires, the reasonable rate and the exciting destination make it a good vacation package of which to take advantage.

Exports for July Set Record as Highest in History

While Argentina has had its problems this year, with the campoblocking roads and now the drought, the nation nonetheless received good economic news yesterday.According to the Clarín, 7.039 million dollars in exports left the country during the month of July, setting a new record.Additionally, purchase within the nation were valued at around six billion dollars, making the country’s commercial surplus around one billion dollars.These statistics were announced yesterday by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (National Institute of Statistics and Censuses) and show that international sales have risen 53 percent since July of last year.For anyone investing in the Argentine economy, these statistics seems like good news indeed.

Sunday was the Day of the Reader in Argentina, a day that celebrates both the importance of reading and the birthday of one of Argentina’s most important writers, Jorge Luis Borges.To celebrate this day, only signed into law last Thursday, many important figures in Buenos Aires attended a ceremony in the Salón Dorado of the Casa de la Cultura.Among those there were the mayor, Mauricio Macri, the famous writers Marcos Aguinis and Santiago Kovadloff, and the President of the Jorge Luis Borges Foundation.According to La Nacion, the Day of the Reader puts the individual reader first in importance—more important that any suggestion the government may make about the need to read.Ultimately, individuals must decide they value literacy and reading, as this day encourages them to do.

Later today in Buenos Aires, the famous Argentine rock and roll pianist Fito Paez performs at La Trastienda Club in an unusually intimate environment for such a big star.Paez was born in Rosario in the province of Santa Fe and formed his first band when he was 13.Since then, he has done nothing but music; he toured right after graduating from high school and has now sold over three million copies of his works.According to Ticketek, he is performing at La Trastienda Club on Balcarce 460 at 8.30 pm for three consecutive days.The shows are not quite sold out, so anyone in the city looking for a last boost to his or her week can still go enjoy this excellent artist’s performance of songs from his newest album, Rodolfo.

Abandoned Baby Saved by Protecting Dog in La Plata

A baby abandoned by her panicking 14-year-old mother was saved by a dog who took the baby into her group of puppies.A story that sounds a little like that of Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a she-wolf and went on to found ancient Rome, this real-life event happened last Thursday when a farmer in La Plata, Fabio Anze, found a baby in with the puppies of his dog China.According to Reuters UK, it is not clear whether or not the dog brought the baby over to the puppies or whether her mother left her there.However, it is certain that the dog kept the baby warm during the first few hours of its life and, by doing so, saved her life.She is now in the hospital with bruises and it recovering quickly and her mother has been located.

The Fairy Queen Opera Opens at Teatro 25 de Mayo

Last Friday, the opera The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell opened in Buenos Aires at the Complejo Cultural Cine of Teatro 25 de Mayo, on Av. Triunvirato 4444.Sponsored by the Colon Theater, which is dedicated to promoting opera in the city and the country, The Fairy Queen is based on the famous poem by Edmund Spenser and, because of its magical, almost surreal qualities, it has been compared to A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare and Metamorphoses by Ovid.According to the government website, after the performances this Friday and Sunday there are two more performances, Tuesday and Thursday, which begin at 8:30pm.Tickets are only 15 pesos, with discounts for retirees and youth.
