LAN Ridership Takes Flight

According to a press release on MarketWatch, ridership on the Latin American carrier LAN is up for the month of October.  The number of international travelers for October rose 2.8% and additional flights to Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States pumped up international capacity 2.0%.  Domestically speaking, passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina and Peru rose 33.9% due to expansion in their Argentine and Chilean hubs.  Cargo traffic matched the favorable percentages with a growth of 8.7%, thanks to strong import markets, notably in Brazil.  The most important statistic, however, was that during September, 89.3% of all flights left on time, based on a fifteen-minute standard.  If you do the math, that’s only .7% away from an A-!

Until November 27, the Central Cultural Borges will host a gallery of some of the strongest photojournalism in the world.  The photographs were selected by Word Press Photo, an independent, non-for-profit organization based in the Netherlands.  80,536 photographs were whittled down to 185 for the traveling exposition’s 10 categories.  Portfolios, stories and single images were judged by a panel of experts.  According to World Press Photo, they look for an image that “represents an issue, situation or event of great journalistic importance, and does so in a way that demonstrates an outstanding level of visual perception and creativity.”  Tim Hetherington’s photo of a soldier in Afghanistan won Photo of the Year.

On Saturday night, an estimated 50,000 people attended this year’s Creamfieldsmusic festival. Originating in England in 1998,  the concert has quickly become one of the most important electronic music events in the world.  Erick Morillo, Gorillaz Soundsystem, Simian Mobile Disco, Cassius, and Roger Sanchez were some of the acts in the line up that kept festival-goers dancing until 6am.  There were also a variety of amusement park rides, skate ramps and multiple tents that turned the location into a veritable night club city.  The vast amount of space required is probably why the event has changed locations several times, having been located in Puerto Madero and San Isidro in the past, this years was held in the autòdromo, Buenos Aires’s own racetrack.  Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Peru also have their own Creamfields.
