Although I’d been to the UK many times, it was like seeing it for the first time when I took my 9-year-old grandson on his initial visit. We were based in Oxford for a special Harry Potter program but had plenty of time for side trips.

It was Winter break of my first year in college. As my friends all went home to their families, Heather & I had a better idea for vacation. We were off on a plane to Germany to visit Heather’s sister, Dana, who was studying in Germany for the academic year and had a surprise waiting for us on the other side of the world.

This past Spring I had the opportunity to visit my niece who is working with the JET program in Japan as a teacher. She invited her mother (my middle sister) and anyone in the family that wanted to for a visit. I was accompanied by my oldest sister, so the three of us who not gone farther than Canada, Mexico, or the Carribbean in our lives, set out for the long flight to Japan.

More and more Argentines are converting their cars to run on natural gas because it is 70 cheaper and more fuel efficient.According to KansasCity.com, more cars run on natural gas in Argentina than anywhere else in the world and because of this, American companies are taking note.As the United States tries to transfer to natural gas for buses, taxis, and cars, companies who want to sell those products go to Argentina to by the natural-gas compressors, conversion kits and fuel tanks they need. They also go to Argentina to learn about the technology.Natural gas is cheaper than the gas that most people currently use, produces 20 percent less green-house gases and reduces American’s dependence on foreign oil.It is hardly a surprise, then, that companies in the United States are looking to import this technology from Argentina.

I had never been to Key West, Florida, so my first trip there was sure to be memorable. My boyfriend and I rode the Key West Express from Fort Myers, Florida, which was an enjoyable 4-hour boat ride to Key West and proved to be an amazing way to get to the Keys rather than driving down.

One of the most memorable trips I’ve ever taken was to Alaska. I had been to the state once before, and seen the typical tourist things (Anchorage, Kenai Fjords, Homer). However, my new wife had not been and was urging me to return with her. I said that the only way that I would agree is if we could go somewhere that the typical tourist does not go. She agreed.

My son & I went to Hawaii to visit Pearl Harbor. We rented a Mustang convertible. I had not driven a convertible since the days of manually pulling the top to put the roof back on! We were on our way to Pearl Harbor, driving with the top down & it began to rain. We had to stop for a red light, so thinking we should put the top back up so not to get drenched, I pushed the button to start the process. I did not realize that the roof STOPPED if the car was put in gear. The light turned green, and as we were the first car in line we had to go. The roof was straight up and down and of course, that is where it stayed as we drove down the street. There were plenty of spectators, due to a tour bus right along side of us in the next lane. We drove to the first street that we could turn off on and stopped. We finished putting the top on and went on our way. I told my 11 year old son, that we would never forget the memories made on that trip!

By March, we in cold, snowy Wisconsin are tired of shoveling snow, putting on our weight in extra clothing just to stay warm, and driving on roads that resemble bobsled slides. We’re sick of being cooped up and we’re sick of being cold. That’s why, when I received a phone call from my sister-in-law early in our marriage, saying they were taking a week’s vacation in Florida, I groaned, “You are SO lucky!”
