EL TAJIN-ARCHAELOGICAL RUINS IN VERACRUZ MEXICO

El Tajin, The Mother culture of Mexico is an Archaeological treasure located north of Veracruz.

The Tajin belongs to the Totonaca Culture. The word Tajin means “The Sacred City of the Dead and of the Thunder in Storm”. Its Architecture, which is unique in Mesoamerica, is characterized by elaborate carved relief’s on the columns and frieze.The Pyramid of the Niches; a masterpiece of Ancient Mexican and American Architecture, reveals the astronomical and symbolic significance of the buildings. The Tajin has survived as an outstanding example of the grandeur and importance of the pre-hispanic cultures in Mexico.

The nucleus of this old city_ The actual archaeological zone is divided into five sections according to the different vertical levels. La plaza del arroyo, La xicalcoliuhqui, The central zone-El tajin chico and The columns cluster.

Besides looking at the Archaeological Ruins, you can enjoy other things. For example: Outside of the archaeological zone, you can buy some regional handicrafts, souvenirs and refreshments. Inside of the archaeological zone there is a Museum which exhibits the most significant Pieces of This area. The Museum also provides a coffee shop and bilingual guides, and at about 4:00pm The Papantla’s Fliers perform an exhibition.
