La Malinche is within the state of Tlaxcala, east of Mexico city and north of Puebla, 44 km from its capital Tlaxcala. It is frequently used as a training/acclimatization climb by mountaineers whose main goal is to climb one or more of the high volcanoes. On sunny weekends Mexican families try to get up there with their children and grandparents. No especial equipment is required, there are no dangerous parts and the trail is very easy to follow so no guide is needed.

The ascend to the top of this volcano of 446 Km takes approximately 4 hours from the refuge located at the end of the access road. Once on top, the sight is really wonderful and in clear days, it is possible to see the popocatepetl, the iztaccihuatl, and the Orizaba peaks.

Due to the beautiful scenarios that La Malinche volcano offers, It is possible to enjoy the nature and also practice some outdoor sports like Mountain Biking, Hiking, Horse Back riding, and camping. La Malinche’s shape can be appreciated at any point inside the state of Tlaxcala, this is because its high elevation. This natural area is open from Monday to Sunday. It is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the entrance fee is only $2 USD.
