Long Famed for its mines and silversmiths shops, the Mexican “Silver City” of Taxco is one of the main sources of Mexican Silver Jewelery. Situated in the Sierra Madre Mountains, to the south of Mexico City, half way to the Pacific Coast Resort of Acapulco Guerrero, its cobblestone streets lead steeply up to the little tree_shaded zocalo. This central square is dominated by the Monumental Baroque Cathedral of Santa Prisca.
Resembling a small European Village, the streets slope up and down like those of Italy, nesting with white Houses donning terracotta-tiled roofs and pink floral accents.
Taxco produces some of the best, most imaginative, original and unusual handmade silver Jewelry in the World. You can’t imagine the variety of things you can find, specially if you are a woman and if you like silver, Earrings, Necklaces, Watches, Rings, Bracelets, Wedding Bands, all you can imagine and the best thing is that the prices are good. Every Saturday in the main street there is a silver market besides the shops already established. It is on this day that the town of Taxco comes to life because many people come from many parts of the country to buy the silver that they will later sell in places like Acapulco, Cancun and other resort towns.
