Folk Group Pachamama Releases New Album

This Saturday, the folk music group Pachamama will perform their new album, “Pasos,” for an audience in Neuquén.No doubt most of the concert goers will already be familiar with this well known folk band’s style, but the band claims they have some new sounds up their sleeves for this album.They are singing songs in Sanskrit, Aymara, and Mapuche as well as in Spanish. According to Diario Río Negro, Pachamama is a sextet of musicians that has been playing together for many years; in 2005 their album “En vivo” was nominated for one of the Premios Gardel. The group’s name, Pachamama, represents their commitment to protect and celebrate the earth, which gives them “bread, milk, and a place to make a home in their world.”Their show begins at 9:30 in the Cine Teatro Español.

Singer Concha Buika Performs Latest Album

This Saturday, the Spanish pop singer Concha Buika will perform in Buenos Aires at the ND/Ateneo at 9pm.Buika was born in Palma de Mallorca and performs a number of different music styles including jazz, bolero, flamenco, and punk.According to Rolling Stone Argentina, this performance will the Buika’s first in Buenos Aires, although she did give a small private performance at the Hotel Faena in Puerto Madero last Tuesday.She is promoting her new album “Niña de Fuego”Buika has also performed in Las Vegas at the The Luxor, Harrah’s and Gold Coast and she was a guest singer in the Blue Note festival also in Las Vegas; she is a well known artist on the world music circuit.

“El Amor es un Francotirador” (“Love is a Sniper”) is the new album by the Argentine group Lola Arias & Ulises Conti.The album has an interesting history, emerging as it did from a theatrical experiment between the two artists.According to What’s Up Buenos Aires, Lola Arias wrote the music, directed, and was the lead singer for a show of the same title: “Love is a Sniper.”This “show,” which was performance art with a little bit of rock concert, choreography, and art installation mixed together, was eventually recorded live and released as an album. A unique piece of musicianship, the live performance of the recording of the live performance will certainly be interesting.It will be performed by the band this Friday and next Friday at the Thelonius Club in Palermo; the show starts at 12:30am.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, a beloved Argentina rock band, recently announced on their official website that they are coming out with a new two-CD set to mark their return to the music world.The CDs will include redone old material, new songs, and covers of the Clash and Ian Dury.There are 24 songs in total.According to Rolling Stone Argentina, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs will be performing shows in Cordoba and Buenos Aires on December 6th and 12th respectively.These performances follow a free show they did earlier this year at the Observatory in Palermo—the venue was packed with screaming fans.No doubt the upcoming concerts will be the same.Tickets can be purchased on Ticketek and run from 40 to 230 pesos, depending on the seat.

Famous Argentine singer Juana Molina will release her new album Un Dia on October 7th on Domino Records.According to Paste Magazine, this album will be the most stripped down and personal of Molina’s albums to date.It was recorded by Molina in her own home outside of Buenos Aires; she was aided only by guitarist Gareth Dickson.Until then, Molina will be touring with Feist.They will end their tour with three more concerts in August, all in venues larger than Molina is used to playing in.However, she says that she wants her music to continue resonating on an individual level with all of her fans.Her new album, with its home grown rhythms and lyrics, should do just that.
