“Fall back” comes in the spring in Argentina, sometimes even as late as the summer, but this year it is the earliest it has ever been:October 19th.According to La Nación, the clocks will be set back one hour that weekend and the time will stay that way until March of 2009.The change is coming earlier this year as part of an attempt to save energy across the country.Days will seem longer, meaning that people will not turn their lights on as early and should, presumably, use less energy.This program was pushed hard by the Energy Secretary after it was successful in several provinces last year, and was finally approved as a nation wide program by President Cristina Kirchner.For those living in the city, it means the late summer nights that we love are coming a few months earlier this year and will be enjoyed for many months to come.

Brazilian Air Force Flies Penguins Back Home

Over 1,000 penguins have ended up on the shores of Brazil this year, and the Brazilian air force is now flying and shipping these penguins back home to the coast of Patagonia.The penguins are, presumably, lost, having come too far north in the search for food in winter.According to the BBC, these birds normally live in the colder waters of Patagonia at the southern tip of Argentina.Scientists are worried that penguins have had to swim so far north, 1,860 miles, for food because their normal food supply has been disrupted.Those who are ready to be introduced back into their habitat are being flown home and those who are still exhausted from their trip will be shipped back by boat, giving them time to recover.

Olympics Over, it is Back to Barcelona for Messi

There was no love lost between the Barcelona soccer club and the Argentina Olympic team over the past month, as each side fought to have super-star Lionel Messi on its team.Now, the Olympics are over and Messi has returned to Barcelona with a gold medal around his neck.According to Goal, the Barcelona team is not actually in Spain right now, but has traveled to Poland to face Wisla Krakow in the second part of the Champions League Qualifier.It was these very qualifying games that Barcelona was so reluctant to have Messi miss.Still, instead of rushing him out to play, they are giving him some time to train and recover from the Olympics before the La Liga begins.

Silvio Berlusconi Back in Power in Italy

The return of Berlusconi to power in Italy with the help of a controversial ally, the Northern League, has led some to ask “Should Italy be broken up into two countries?”

The discussion centers around the prosperous north subsidizing the poorer southern regions.

Now, Veronica Lario, Berlusconi’s wife has made a statement on breaking Italy in two. In an interview with La Stampa, she said: “Italy has never been well-suited to being a single country, and has never matured enough to become one. There is no longer any value in a unified Italy."
