In the South American World Cup Qualifying tournament, Paraguay put the heat on Brazil and Argentina when they beat Venezuela 2-0 on Tuesday.The win gave Paraguay a total of 17 points, 5 points more than Argentina and Brazil have.Tied at twelve a piece, Argentina and Brazil are expected to win their games today and accrue two more points each.Of course, nothing is a sure thing; the Argentine soccer team must beat Peru today in Peru’s home stadium.Brazil will face last place Bolivia in Brazil.In the tournament, the top four teams will qualify to go to the World Cup, and the fifth place team will go to a playoff between teams from the CONCACAF north and Central America zones.

Argentina has already won the gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and now they are beginning their run for gold in the Paralympic games.Yesterday, in the soccer tournament’s opening match, Argentina beat Spain 2-0.Both goals were scored by Silvio Velo, who is called the “blind Maradona” by his team mates.According to China View, paralympic “football five-a-side” consists of two teams, five players each, four of which must be blind.The fifth player, the goaly, must be visually impaired.To help the men know when and where to shoot the ball, one sighted person stands behind the goal and yells directions to the players on the field.There are six teams participating in this year’s football five-a-side Paralympics in Beijing.

On Saturday, Manu Ginobili led the Argentine basketball team to a decisive victory over Iran, 97 to 82.Ginobili scored 32 points, nearly a third of the team’s total, and was the leading scorer from either team.According to China View, Iran felt pleased to have finished within 15 points of the defending gold medal champion.This is Iran’s first time competing in the Olympics for basketball.Argentina was less pleased with their performance, as they made many mistakes, but they got the win and continue to be a strong contender for a medal.Argentina will play Russia later today.
