Argentina’s first gold medal in the Beijing Olympic Games was won yesterday by Juan Esteban Curuchet and Walter Fernando Perez in cycling, specifically the track cycling event the “Madison.”According to La Voz, Curuchet is 43 years old and this is his final Olympic Games.This is also the first time he, or any Argentine, has won a medal in cycling.When he and Perez accepted the medals on the podium and heard the Argentine national anthem, they and their families in the audience all cried.In the race, Spain finished second behind Argentina and Russia finished third.The other events that Argentina is anticipating gold in are yet to come; they hope to reach the finals and win in field hockey, basketball, and soccer.

Diego Maradona, one of the most beloved Argentines, whose name is mentioned with that of Evita Peron and General San Martin, arrived on August 16th in China to be at the Beijing Olympic Games.  According to China View, Maradona said that he wanted to be there to support the basketball and the soccer team, both of which are contenders for medals.He went to the soccer team’s game on Saturday night, which Argentina won, and planned after that to go see Argentine basketball and field hockey. Having such a famous Argentine there to watch the games must give all the teams, and fans, a little bit of faith and inspiration.

The Circo de Beijing, or Beijing Circus, is performing their new show, entitled “The Emperor of Mongolia:The Wind of Genghis Khan” on Corrientes, the Broadway of Buenos Aires.According to Yahoo News, the performance consists of 39 acrobats performing under the direction of Xin Guining.The Beijing Circus has been established for over half a century and considers itself part of a tradition that goes back for thousands of years.Internationally renowned, the group has trained in specific Chinese acrobatic techniques that leave audiences gasping.The show will be held for four consecutive nights, the 26th through the 29th, at Luna Park.Tickets can be purchased online at TicketPortal.
