Coach in Demand

Former Argentina Soccer manager Alfio Basile is in high demand.  Both Manchester City and the United Arab Emirates are interested in working with him.  Basile resigned in October from his Argentine post and was replaced by legend Diego Maradona.  He feels he still has a lot to offer, assuring the public “I really want to keep on coaching.” Manchester City is currently one of the world´s wealthiest clubs.  In September they secured the services of Brazilian Robinho for 32 million pounds.

Coach Maradona Claims First Win

Argentina beat Scotland 1-0 in Diego Maradona’s first game as national coach.  The choice of stadium, coincidentally, was the same Glasgow locale that Maradona scored his first international goal back in 1979.  Maxi Rodriguez scored the singular goal in the eighth minute at Hapden Park.  Maradona was hired to bring back the Argentine team to it’s former glory, but there will still be struggles ahead if they intend to make it past their fourth place standing in South America’s World Cup qualifying group.  The soccer legend purportedly spent the game curled on the bench, shielding himself from the Scottish night.  The goal was articulated by a swift punch to the air.

In a move that is shocked soccer fans across the world, Argentina is set to announce that Diego Maradona will be the national soccer team’s new head coach.Though it was known that he was in the running for the job, left vacant on October 16th by Alfio Basile, no one thought Maradona would get it because of his limited experience coaching.According to Telegraph, Maradona has only coached Deportivo Mandiyu for two months in 1994 and Racing Club for four months in 1995.Nonetheless, Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona has offered him the job and he is expected to accept it this coming Tuesday.Can Argentina’s soccer darling do the trick for a struggling national team?That remains to be seen.

Maradona Offers to Coach Argentina National Team

Diego Maradona made a surprising announcement last Friday when he announced that he would be willing and honored to coach the Argentine national soccer team.According to Reuters UK, Maradona’s statement followed the surprise announcement of Alfio Basile, the head coach, saying that he was leaving the team.The announcement was prompted by the erratic and somewhat poor performance of Argentine in the World Cup Qualifying games that has left that unsure they will even make it to the World Cup.Despite the fact that Maradona is Argentina’s most beloved soccer player of all time, he is not a favorite to win the coaching position.Other, more experienced coaches, including Miguel Angel Russo, Sergio Batista, Diego Simeone and Carlos Bianchi, are all considered more likely to get the job.
