Argentine company OpeniMac is selling Mac clones for $400 less than the real thing. The company offers desktop models with towers and screens, less sleek than Apple, but definitely cheap. The OpeniMacs supposedly have faster processors, more memory, more powerful graphic cards, more file-transfer ports and can come with either XP or Vista. They compare speeds and prices on their fancy graphing system, but the reality of these claims is up to the user. Anyone want to try them out?

Lionel Messi is one of the best soccer players in the world and he is caught between his club team, Barcelona, and his country’s Olympic team. Barcelona has been unwilling to release Messi for the games and eventually FIFA was forced to rule that Messi had to be released for the Olympics. Now, however, the tables have turned again.According to Reuters, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), to which Barcelona appealed FIFA’s decision, said that Barcelona, in fact, does not have to release Messi. Now it is up to Messi to decide if he will defy his team and stay with the Argentine Olympic team. It is still possible that Barcelona will release him at last, but they have fought so long to prevent it that that outcome seems unlikely.

The wind, which kept us awake for most of the night, is shaking the windows so badly that we expect they will explode inwards at any moment. The rain, which has been falling steadily, would no doubt follow. But at 8:30 am, we rush out the door and run to catch the municipal bus to Cerro Cathedral, some 20km west of the city. It’s normally a full bus in the mornings, with throngs of Brazilians, Argentines and Americans making the daily trip to ski, but on this morning the weather has most people staying in bed. Thankfully, they are not blessed with insider knowledge that says if it’s raining and less than 5 degrees in the city, it’s snowing hard on the mountain.
