Manu Ginobili, a well known Argentine around the world for his incredible basketball skills, will not be able to begin the NBA season for the San Antonio Spurs because the injury to his left ankle is not yet fully healed.According to the Associated Press, Ginobili had surgery in early September because he had further exacerbated an already existing injury playing for Argentina in the Olympic Games.While some might say that he has let his NBA team down, his coach Gregg Popovich says that it is really a blessing.The surgery has cleaned his ankle out and now it will have a chance to really heal instead of getting only partly better.Ginobili will probably miss the first two months of the season and is currently training with the team, going slowly through the process of rehabilitation.

The Argentine basketball player Manu Ginobili was officially added to the Argentine’s Olympic roster last Friday, ending the debate over whether he would be well enough to play in the Olympics.Having sprained his ankle in the NBA playoffs, his status was uncertain and he was under some pressure from the Spurs to not play unless he was 100 percent well.According to ESPN, Ginobili says he is experiencing no pain and is ready to play, a decision that the Spurs must accept.Part of Argentina’s 12 man roster, he will play a major part in defending the Argentine gold medal from Athens in 2004.They begin play again Lithuania.
