The oldest and most important classic race in the Argentine horse racing world will take place this Saturday, December 13, 2008.  The prize was created in 1887 in honor of the first president and founder of the Buenos Aires Jockey Club, Carlos Pellegrini, also a President of Argentina.  The race runs a distance of 2400 meters and marks the end of the horse racing season in Argentina. Held at the Hipodromo de San Isidro at 1pm, the event will have a playground for children, a classic car exhibition as well as musical performances.  The proceeds will go toward assistance to the Fundacion Hospital Juan A. KT Tunstall, the famous folk-rock performer from Scotland, is coming to Buenos Aires to perform at the Teatro Gran Rex on October 21st.According to Rolling StoneArgentina, KT Tunstall emerged onto the international music scene in 2005 with her hit single “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.”She says that her music is heavily influenced by music from the 60s—particularly the rock and folk music of her parents’ generation—as well as her training in classical flute and piano, which she began at an early age.She has been nominated for a Grammy and is currently touring to support her new album, Drastic Fantastic, which has been highly anticipated.Ticket prices range from 70 to 180 pesos and are available at Ticketek.

On October 9th, Gilberto Gil is presenting his newest project, entitled “Banda Larga Cordel,” at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires.According to Ticketek, Gilberto Gil is from Salvador, Brazil and is an incredibly successful singer, songwriter, and guitarist.Though he began his career playing Bossa Nova music, his work became more socially conscious and political, causing the Brazilian military regime to at one point hold him captive for nine months.
