The peso and the dollar have stood at three to one ever since the financial crisis in Argentina abated and the peso stabilized.Now, though, the peso’s value is changing; it currently stands around 3.2 to one dollar and economists are reporting that it may drop to 3.8 to one by the end of the year.According to Bloomberg, Argentina is seriously considering lessening its defense of the peso because they need to stem the loss of foreign reserves. An economist says that Argentina’s “balance sheet is more strained than gross reserves show,” and that they need this trade surplus to continue to pay off their many international debts. It is hard to say what such a devaluation will do in the long term; in the short term tourists from the US, Europe, and Britian will see their money buying more, hopefully encouraging more tourism to the country.

I can’t believe it’s already been 15 years since Oldways, a widely-respected non-profit “food issues think tank” successfully introduced the consumer-friendly health-promoting Mediterranean Diet Pyramid. I remember we all had fantastic time eating, drinking and learning from the pros about incorporating more Mediterranean foods into your diet. (Keep in mind that back then, olive oil was considered a special occasion item and the same bottle usually sat in your pantry for a year, and balsamic vinegars, hummus, oil-cured olives and sun-dried tomatoes were exotic items- and not the Trader Joe staples of today)

• “THAI Plants Life for Planet Earth"- The company's “THAI Plants Life for Planet Earth" project continues THAI's reforestation efforts at the Education Center for the development of Hui Sai in Cha-am district, Petchburi province. Water tanks will be provided to the center, for the transport of water used in further developing forest area. (The project will be conducted for the second time on June 14, 2008)
