Argentina’s women field hockey team, Las Leonas, defeated New Zealand 3-2 and now moves on to play in the semi-finals of the Olympic Games.Currently unbeaten, the team has caught fire since their disappointing ties with the United States and Great Britain.They beat Germany 4-0, who they played previously in the finals of the Champions Trophy, which Argentina won.According to 7th Space, the other teams in the semi-finals are China, Germany and the Netherlands.Argentina will face the Netherlands to determine whether or not they will get a chance to go to the finals and play for the gold medal.

The Argentine women’s field hockey team played the United States on Sunday and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.According to The New York Times, this was an upsetting tie for Argentina, which is a powerhouse hockey team, ranked number 2 in the tournament and the defending bronze medalist.The United States was pleased with their performance, as they are an up-and-coming club.At the end of last year, in the final of the Pan American games, Argentina beat the United States 4-2, making it seem that the U.S. has improved in the last year.In their three Olympic matches prior to this year, Argentina has beaten the U.S. every single time.Now, the U.S. goes on to play Japan and Argentina will face Great Britain.

The Argentine men’s field hockey team beat the Netherlands on their home turf in the Champions Trophy, putting them at the top of the leader board for Tuesday.The victory was a nail biter, with Argentina winning with a late second half goal by Juan Ignacio Gilardi. The Champions Trophy is the International Hockey Federation’s most prestigious tournament and it has been running since 1980.The women’s team, Las Leonas, won this tournament earlier this year and the men may also do so, showing that Argentina is a true world power in field hockey. Both the men and the women will soon have to defend that claim in the Olympics. Their next game is today against Spain.
