Yesterday was the Day of the Immigrant in Argentina, and in Buenos Aires the day was celebrated by the mayor Mauricio Macri in an official government act in the Casa de Cultura on Av. de Mayo. At his speech will be leaders from various immigrant communities represented in Argentina and together they will remember the many extremely important contributions that immigrants have made—and still make—in Argentina. Since the Executive Branch decreed September 4th a holiday in 1949, communities across the country have celebrated the day with festivals and speeches. The biggest celebration is in Oberá, Misiones, a province in the far north east of Argentina.
