In early July of 2009, an elite 5-star resort called Dubrovnik Gardens of the Sun (Dubrovacki vrtovi sunca) will open in Orašac near Dubrovnik. The investor in the project is a joint-venture  of Hidrocommerce and Jupiter Adria, and the value of the investment is 170 million euros. The project is expected to additionally enrich the offer in the Dubrovnik region and contribute to the realization of year-round tourism with its facilities.

While Argentina has had its problems this year, with the campoblocking roads and now the drought, the nation nonetheless received good economic news yesterday.According to the Clarín, 7.039 million dollars in exports left the country during the month of July, setting a new record.Additionally, purchase within the nation were valued at around six billion dollars, making the country’s commercial surplus around one billion dollars.These statistics were announced yesterday by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos (National Institute of Statistics and Censuses) and show that international sales have risen 53 percent since July of last year.For anyone investing in the Argentine economy, these statistics seems like good news indeed.

Argentina is known as one of the beef capitals of the world, and this July the nation has agreed to export 45,000 tons of beef.A large amount of beef, this figure is actually below the market demand for 77,000 tons. According to Mercopress, in 2007, Argentina produced 3,217,604 tons of beef, and of that, 2,678,589 tons (83%) were consumed in domestically.It is important, at least to some Argentines, that the best of Argentina’s cattle industry be kept inside the country for Argentines to enjoy.This perspective is, of course, juxtaposed by those who wish to export more beef and bring those profits back to the economy.At the moment, the agreement between farmers and the Argentine government favors domestic consumption, making Argentina still the best place to eat Argentine beef.

This last Friday, American’s living in Argentina celebrated the Fourth of July in a variety of ways.The Democrats Abroad celebrated by meeting for drinks, hot dogs, and voter registration at La Merval, a bar in the city center.The turn out for the event was estimated at somewhere between 70 and 200 people.  According to YanquiMike, the event even got noticed by the Clarín, one of the two major city news papers in Buenos Aires. This coming Wednesday is the independence day of Argentina, and they won’t be celebrating with hotdogs! On Independence Day here, Argentines drink hot chocolate for breakfast and eat locro, a traditional stew, for lunch.
