Silba Island will get underwater museum

Last year the remains of a sarcophagus were found in Pocukmarak bay on Silba Island, as well as the remains of another one. Recently, a second phase of underwater research started where archaeologists will explore the wider area and carry out the preparations for opening an underwater museum.

Association of Friends of Fine Arts Museum Eduardo Sívori is having its 9th annual art auction in Buenos Aires this coming August 21st at 7pm.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the auction is held in order to raise funds for the museum.Over 100 works by Argentine artists will be available for purchase.These will include paintings, sculptures, photographs, engravings, and digitalized works by artists such as Luis Felipe Noé, Eduardo Stupía, León Ferrari and many, many others.For those looking to get started collecting art or looking to expand their Argentine collection, this auction is a great opportunity.The museum is located on Av. New Cubism Exhibit at the Museum of Bellas Artes

The Museum of Bellas Artes is currently holding a new temporary exhibit entitled “El Cubismo y sus entornos en las colecciones de Telefónica” (Cubism and its environment in the Telefonica collections).The exhibit boasts 41 works by painted from both Europe and Latin America.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the Museum of Bellas Artes and the Telefónica foundation are hosting this exhibit now to celebrate the centenary of the movement, which began at the beginning of the 20th century.Guided tours available for adults and children, and today at 6pm there is a special guided tour by the exhibition’s curator.Admission is free.

Rodin in Context at Museum of Decorative Arts

Now through September 14th, the Museum of Decorative Arts is home to a travelling exhibit of works by the famous French sculpture Auguste Rodin.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the exhibit includes not only work by Rodin but also but his teachers and his disciples, producing an excellent context in which to view Rodin’s work.Best known for his sculpture The Thinker, Rodin was active in the 19th century, was a master of clay, and conducted many important sculpting workshops in his time.This exhibit, only 2 pesos entrance and free on Tuesday, can also be seen on a guided tour at 5:30 on weekdays and 4:30 and 5:30 on weekends.

A long way from its home in Berlin, an original version of the silent filmMetropolis was just discovered in the Museo del Cine de Buenos Aires.How did it get there?Strangely, according to the Clarín,no one seems to be sure.What is certain, however, is that this copy is an exact version of the film that director Fritz Lang showed 81 years ago.Of course, the copy is very old and in need of restoration before it can match the restored 2002 version in quality. Fans of this great classic of German film can only be pleased, since the new scenes present in this copy will lead to a reexamination—and perhaps give some clarification—of this complex science fiction masterpiece.

National Museum of Fine Arts Opens New Room

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires has reopened the rooms of the Guerrico Collection, which have been closed off for 70 years.Within the rooms are ivory and silver pieces, vases, and European sculptures and paintings from the 19th century.The National Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most important art collections in Latin America and includes works by major artists such as Rodin, El Greco, Degas, and Renoir.Now that they are reopened, the Guerrico Collection will once again be an integral part of this amazing museum, located at Libertador 1473 and free to all visitors.
