Aerolineas Argentinas has been through a lot on the last several months, and at the moment the Argentine senate is discussing how to re-nationalize the business.Despite the changes within the business—or perhaps because of them—Aerolineas is more on time now than it has been in the past 20 months.According to the ClarÃn, 74.1 percent of domestic flights were on-time and 65.2 percent of international flights.Even late flights were, on average, only around 30 minutes delayed, a remarkable improvement from the relative chaos of the airline in the past year. For the same month last year, domestic flights left on time only 27 percent of the time, international flights 18.It is expected that the Senate debate will end with the government approving the reacquisition of what was formerly a state-owned airline in the 90s.

A new survey on the state of air travel in Argentina revealed that in the first half of 2008, flights departed on time 53 percent of the time, up from 26.3 percent last year. According to The Argentine Post, LAN Argentina was the airline with the highest percentage of on-time departures (90 percent). The most punctual international airlines were Continental and Taca, with 95 percent on-time departures. The survey was conducted by the Argentine Right to Tourism Association. In a time when air travel seems to be getting worse, not better, its findings about Argentina seem promising for tourism in the second half of 2008.
