
In early July of 2009, an elite 5-star resort called Dubrovnik Gardens of the Sun (Dubrovacki vrtovi sunca) will open in Orašac near Dubrovnik. The investor in the project is a joint-venture of Hidrocommerce and Jupiter Adria, and the value of the investment is 170 million euros. The project is expected to additionally enrich the offer in the Dubrovnik region and contribute to the realization of year-round tourism with its facilities.

For the third year in a row, tennis player Roger Federer won the Swiss Open, his home tournament, and this year he did it by defeating Argentina’s David Nalbandian.Federer’s victory on Sunday was decisive, beating him in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.According to the Canadian Press, Federer hit eight aces and conceded just seven points on his serve all match, showing why this is his fourth title of the year.Nalbandian said that Federer’s play in the match was the best he had ever seen it in the years they have played against one another.He also felt that his own play was not at the level he wanted it to be.Their lifetime record against each other stands at 10 wins Federer, 8 wins Nalbandian.

This Sunday is the first day of the 115th Hurlingham Club Open Championship, the oldest polo tournament in the world.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the best teams and most highly ranked players from around the world will be coming to Buenos Aires to compete in the tournament.Games begin this Sunday at 2 and 4pm and continue on Tuesday, then the following weekend, and the championship game is on November 1st.The matches take place at the Hurlingham Club which is in the outskirts of Buenos Aires and was founded back in 1888. The tournament is the second of three championships that make up the “Triple Crown†of Argentine polo; the Argentine Open Championship will be the third and last.

Argentina’s hottest young tennis star, Juan MartÃn Del Potro was defeated this Saturday by Tomas Berdych in the Japan Open Finals.According to the BBC, Del Potro lost in straight sets to the Czech player, 6-1 6-4, who is only 23, three years older than Del Potro.In the 22nd minute, after losing the first set, Del Potro called for a medical time out to take some pills for his stomach; it was clear that he wasn’t feeling well.However, Del Potro insisted after the match that he had been defeated because of the quality of Berdych’s game, not because of his evident illness.Everyone is hoping that his medical problems will be short lived and that he will be healthy for the approaching Davis Cup Finals in Argentina.

The Tortugas Country Club Open Polo Championship is currently underway, as six teams compete for the Emilio de Anchorena Cup.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, this tournament is the first of three in the official polo season, known as the Triple Crown.The matches, which began on Tuesday and run until the finals on October 11th, feature eleven of Argentinas twelve players with the highest handicaps.Each team must have a handicap of at least 10 goals to qualify, making this tournament a match of some of the best polo teams in the world, played in a country that really appreciates its polo and its horses.Depending on the match and the seats, tickets cost between 25 to 200 pesos; the next game is September 27th.

The 44th Jockey Club Open Championship is starting soon, bringing together eleven teams and some of the best players from around the world.Polo is a classic Argentine sport, though it was brought here from Britain, and Argentina has an unusually high concentration of the world’s best players.Four Argentine players of note in the tournament are Adolfo Cambiaso Jr., Bartolomé Castagnola, AgustÃn Merlos and Bautista Heguy, all of whom have a handicap of ten goals.The total handicaps of the teams range from 28 to 34 goals. The event takes place at the Buenos Aires Jockey Club, in the outlying town of San Isidro, which can be reached by train.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the tournament will take place from September 8th through September 20th.

Juan Martin Del Potro’s amazing winning tennis streak was cut short Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the US Open by British player Andy Murray.According to The Scotsman, Del Potro went down in the game early, fighting hard but losing the first two sets to Murray in tie breakers, 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-1).Del Potro fought back, winning the third set 4-6, but lost control in the fourth set, 7-5, to end the match.A game a great energy and excitement, the match lasted for three hours and 58 minutes.Murray’s win sets up a semi-final match between him and the number one seed, Rafael Nadal.He is the fifth British player to reach the semi-finals in the era of “opens” in tennis.

On Saturday at the golf course in Colorado Springs, Argentine golfer Eduardo Romero took the lead at the U.S. Senior Open.The 54-year-old golfer from Cordoba golfed birdies on the first three holes of the day, giving him a five-under-par 65 for the day and a nine-under total of 201 for the tournament.His finish on Saturday put him two strokes ahead.According to Reuters, Romero feels that winning the tournament would be important not only for him personally but for “Latin America and Argentina†as well.As one of several Argentine golfers who have stepped into the spotlight in the last several months, Romero feels proud to be representing his country far away from home.

The “Festival de la Luz,†or festival of light, is a celebration of photography that takes place in 22 cities across Argentina, including Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Salta, and La Rioja.According to the official website, the scope of the “exhibit†is enormous. It comprises over 80 different photographic exhibits, shown at museums and cultural centers, as well as round table discussions, films, and photography workshops.In Buenos Aires, the festival will take place in some of the city’s most well known venues, including the Recoleta Cultural Center and the Borges Cultural Center.The festival begins August 1st and goes until September 30th, so those traveling around the country in the next two months will have many opportunities to enjoy this massive celebration of photography, which drew 1,200,000 visitors last year.
