The new four-star Hotel Marmont in Split has recently been opened in the historical core of the city of Split, in Diocletian Palace.

This is a luxury hotel having a total area of 750 square meters. The hotel has 21 rooms arranged on three floors and a luxury 150 square-meter suite in the attic.

The Fairy Queen Opera Opens at Teatro 25 de Mayo

Last Friday, the opera The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell opened in Buenos Aires at the Complejo Cultural Cine of Teatro 25 de Mayo, on Av. Triunvirato 4444.Sponsored by the Colon Theater, which is dedicated to promoting opera in the city and the country, The Fairy Queen is based on the famous poem by Edmund Spenser and, because of its magical, almost surreal qualities, it has been compared to A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare and Metamorphoses by Ovid.According to the government website, after the performances this Friday and Sunday there are two more performances, Tuesday and Thursday, which begin at 8:30pm.Tickets are only 15 pesos, with discounts for retirees and youth.

The non-profit opera organization Juventus Lyrica opens their performance of The Barber of Seville in the Teatro Avenida on Avenida de Mayo.The opera is by Gioacchino Rossini and opened for the first time in Rome in 1816.The story follows the character of Figaro, the barber of Seville, who ends up orchestrating a romance between Rosina and Count Almavida.This opera is one of the most well known in the world and has entertained audiences for nearly 200 years.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the performances will be on two successive weekends:August 29th and 31st and September 4th, 5th, and 6th.Tickets are available at the theater or via Entrada Plus.

Today is the inauguration of the exhibit entitled “The Just Croatians:Heroes of the Holocaust,” on display in the Salon Dorada in the Casa de Cultura, on Av. de Mayo.According to the government website, the exhibit will display photographs and give information about 39 of the 106 Croatian men, women, and children who showed their solidarity with the persecuted Jews after the Independent State of Croatia was invaded and controlled by the Nazi’s in 1941.In Croatia during the Holocaust, 80 percent of the Jewish population was killed and those who survived escaped either before the war or with the aid of those few Croatians.Their efforts were first recognized by the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem.The Buenos Aires exhibit opens to the public on July 30th and runs until August 17th.

Verdi Opera Attila Opens in Buenos Aires Friday

The operaAttila, by Guiseppe Verdi, opens this Friday at the Teatro Avenida on Avenida de Mayo.The opera was first performed in Buenos Aires on September 23rd, 1853, only six years after it had opened in Venice.It took another hundred years before the opera returned to the city, in 1966.Centering on the life of Attila, king of the Huns, the opera is a good introduction to Verdi as it contains most of his signature styles.According to the website of Buenos Aires Lírica, the company performing the opera, the production runs until the 26th of July and tickets start at 40 pesos and run to 180, depending on how well you want to be able to see the face of Attila the fearsome Hun.

The 22nd Atlantic Jazz Festival began on July 11th in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was opened by Argentina’s Orquesta Tipica Imperial.This great jazz festival, known for bringing the best in jazz together every year, is expanding to include different types of music such as avant-garde, world, pop, folk, and fusion.Tango music may not initially seem like it has a lot in common with jazz, but its roots in the experiences of every day people and its growth to a high art form give the two many similarities.According to All About Jazz, the Festival runs through the 19th and is only the first stop for the Orquesta Tipica on its first North American Tour.They will also be playing in New York and Chicago before returning to Argentina.

National Museum of Fine Arts Opens New Room

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires has reopened the rooms of the Guerrico Collection, which have been closed off for 70 years.Within the rooms are ivory and silver pieces, vases, and European sculptures and paintings from the 19th century.The National Museum of Fine Arts is one of the most important art collections in Latin America and includes works by major artists such as Rodin, El Greco, Degas, and Renoir.Now that they are reopened, the Guerrico Collection will once again be an integral part of this amazing museum, located at Libertador 1473 and free to all visitors.
