On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the Teatro Colon Orchestra is performing Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 “Choral,†by Ludwig van Beethoven.This symphony is the last symphony composed by Beethoven and is considered to be the apotheosis of his previous symphonies.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, a number of soloists will perform with the orchestra, including soprano Monica Philibert, mezzo soprano Monica Sardi, tenor Fernando Chabale, and baritone Lenardo Estevez.The performance is at the Auditorio de Belgrano on Virrey Loreto 2348 and tickets cost from 16 to 50 pesos.They can be purchased at the Colón Theater and the Auditorio Belgrano’s ticket offices.

This coming Friday, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert featuring the music of famous German Romantic composer Richard Strauss.The concert will begin at 8:30 in the Teatro Opera, which is being used for many major performances while the Teatro Colon is closed for repairs. The performance will begin with “Three Songs” by Golijov, followed by “Variaciones Concertantes”, by Alberto Ginastera.The second half of the performance will be dedicated to a symphonic poem by Richard Strauss entitled “A hero’s life”, Op. 40.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, the Mezzo soprano Virginia Correa Dupuy will be the soloist at this concert.Tickets are available at the theater Monday through Friday and range from 26 to 150 pesos depending on the seat.

Tonight at 7:30 at the President Alvear Theater, the Tango Orchestra of Buenos Aires is giving a free performance to celebrate their album “En vivo en el Colón†(Live at the Colón) going Gold.The “gold†status is awarded by the CAPIF to albums that sell over 20,000 copies.According to the Ministry of Culture, the Tango Orchestra of Buenos Aires began in 1980 and since then has performed in the best theaters in Buenos Aires as well as several in the provinces and various Latin American countries.Today’s performance will celebrate their many achievements as a group and will include special guest singer Guillermo Fernández.
