Argentina and Paraguay Tie in World Cup Qualifier

This Saturday, Argentina’s soccer team had a chance to move past Paraguay into the number one slot of the South American World Cup Qualifying Tournament.Instead, the teams tied one to one, leaving Paraguay ahead with 14 total points and Argentina in second place with 12.According to AFP, the match was a comedy of errors for Argentina nearly from the start, when an Argentine defender accidentally kicked the ball into his own team’s net.Then, Carlos Tevez, of Manchester United, got kicked out of the game after thirty minutes when he received his second yellow card.It wasn’t until sixty minutes into the game that star Lionel Messi set up a goal for Sergio Aguero. While it was impressive that Argentina managed to tie even when playing a man down for most of the game, the Argentine coach said they were far from happy with the game.

With the excitement of the Olympics behind them, Argentina is now facing a different challenge as the South American World Cup qualifying games continue.On Saturday, Argentina will face Paraguay in Buenos Aires.Paraguay is currently leading the qualifying tournament, but they are nervous about the game on Saturday because two of their star strikers, Roque Santa Cruz and Salvador Cabanas, are injured.According to Goal.com, they are not officially out of the game yet, but an official decision on their conditions will be made by later today or tomorrow.The match will take place Saturday evening and no doubt the cafes of Argentina will be full of fans hoping that their team can go from gold medal to World Cup champion.
