On October 9th, Gilberto Gil is presenting his newest project, entitled “Banda Larga Cordel,” at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires.According to Ticketek, Gilberto Gil is from Salvador, Brazil and is an incredibly successful singer, songwriter, and guitarist.Though he began his career playing Bossa Nova music, his work became more socially conscious and political, causing the Brazilian military regime to at one point hold him captive for nine months. He has released 50 albums over the course of his career, 12 of which went gold and 5 went platinum.He has won 7 Grammy Awards and sold more than four million disks in total.Obviously a star performer, you can see his show buy buying tickets at Ticketek beginning at 40 pesos.

Singer Concha Buika Performs Latest Album

This Saturday, the Spanish pop singer Concha Buika will perform in Buenos Aires at the ND/Ateneo at 9pm.Buika was born in Palma de Mallorca and performs a number of different music styles including jazz, bolero, flamenco, and punk.According to Rolling Stone Argentina, this performance will the Buika’s first in Buenos Aires, although she did give a small private performance at the Hotel Faena in Puerto Madero last Tuesday.She is promoting her new album “Niña de Fuego”Buika has also performed in Las Vegas at the The Luxor, Harrah’s and Gold Coast and she was a guest singer in the Blue Note festival also in Las Vegas; she is a well known artist on the world music circuit.

The Teatro Colon Ballet Company, still without its home while the Teatro Colon undergoes reconstruction, will be performing a new program at the Teatro Coliseo.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, they will perform three different ballets.The first number is called “Les Sylphides” and is set to the piano pieces of Chopin.The second number, “Momentos,” is set to the music of Glover Gill, an American composer with a passion for Argentine Tango, thus the group’s name: Glovertango. The last ballet is the Grand Pas of the third act of “Raymonda,” a classical ballet with music by Alexander Glazunov.Performances begin this evening at 8:30 and run Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday.Tickets are 16 to 50 pesos, on sale at the Teatro Colon ticket office.

Teatro Colon Orchestra Performs Beethoven

On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the Teatro Colon Orchestra is performing Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 “Choral,” by Ludwig van Beethoven.This symphony is the last symphony composed by Beethoven and is considered to be the apotheosis of his previous symphonies.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, a number of soloists will perform with the orchestra, including soprano Monica Philibert, mezzo soprano Monica Sardi, tenor Fernando Chabale, and baritone Lenardo Estevez.The performance is at the Auditorio de Belgrano on Virrey Loreto 2348 and tickets cost from 16 to 50 pesos.They can be purchased at the Colón Theater and the Auditorio Belgrano’s ticket offices.

On August 29th, 30th, and 31st, Paloma Herrera will be performing with the Teatro ColonBallet and the National Symphonic Orchestra at Luna Park, in Buenos Aires.Herrera is an Argentine ballerina who was born in Buenos Aires and eventually received the highest qualification at theInsti­tute of Arts at the Teatro Colon.Now, she is the lead dancer for the American Ballet Company.According to her official website, she began dancing as their principle in 1995 at the age of 19—the youngest in the history of the American Ballet Company.Her return to her home country and city is a highly anticipated event and should be an excellent performance of the highest caliber.

The posters have been up around the city for over a month, and finally this coming Monday the Circe de Soleil presents their show Alegria (Jubilation) in Buenos Aires in the Costañera Sur.Under the traditional white tent, this famous circus will perform nine times, from Monday until Sunday. According to the official website, the show focuses on the themes of power exchange and transformation, as monarchies evolve into democracies and the young become old. It is divided into several acts and features many talented performers and musicians. The show has been running for thirteen years now and its longevity speaks to the quality of the acrobatics, scenery, costumes, and music.Tickets aren’t cheap; even the nose-bleed section is 150 pesos and the best seats are 600 pesos.
