Wednesday night, the Argentine soccer team faced Peru in a World Cup Qualifying match and, to the surprise and dismay of Argentines watching, they tied.The final score was 1-1.Argentine led until stopped time—time awarded for penalties that is added on after 90 minutes are up—and then Peru managed to get one in the net.Luckily for Argentina, Brazil was also held to a surprise draw against Bolivia, 0-0.Chile smashed Colombia 4-0, bumping Brazil into the number five spot as Argentine moved to the number three.  Paraguay is still number one.This qualifying tournament for the World Cup is extremely long: we are only at game 8 out of 18.Still, fans of Argentina and Brazil are beginning to feel nervous watching their teams lose to competitors they feel they should be beating.

An 8.0 earthquke has struck the south coast of Peru Wednesday night. For those of you who know my connection with Peru and VIDA, you will be thinking "what can I do to help". VIDA is working quickly with the US Government, Peruvian government and Americares to air drop medical relief supplies into Pisco, 90 miles south of Lima.

As the death toll mounts, the injured is threefold, and both hospitals in Pisco were destroyed. The images you see on UNIVISION are heartbreaking. VIDA - based in Emeryville is taking donations of medcal supplies, medical equipment, blankets, sheets and tents. NO clothes. Materials will go directly to stricken areas where doctors/nurses are setting up makeshift emergency rooms.
