Long home to the Polo greats, Argentina is experiencing a boom in Polo tourism.  “Here in Argentina it is easy to practice and play because we have the horses, the land, the players — everything,”  commented Adolfo Cambiaso, well known as the top player in the world. Argentina´s relative cheapness to other polo playing countries and distance from world conflicts allows the industry to blossom- including Polo attire and even Polo themed resorts.  Teams are funded by patrons who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, on horses and players, flying them around the globe to compete in tournaments.  The upper class sport has even been growing in popularity amongst celebrities, for example, Tommy Lee Jones has his own Argentine Polo Ranch.

My Buenos Aires Travel Guide reports the coming of the Polo and Art charity exhibition to Buenos Aires.  Between November 15th and December 6th, 30 statues of polo horses will be presented along Avenida Alvear, Quintana, Posadas, and Arroyo Street.  The statues will be adorned by artists such as Marino Santa María, Nora Iniesta, Martiniano Arce, Ernesto Pesce, and Mireya Baglieto.    The pieces will be auctioned off December 9 at Tango Porteño, in aid of the Fundación Hospital Fernández.  During the exhibition period, 8 of these pieces will remain at Casa de la Cultura, Avenida de Mayo 575.

The Tortugas Country Club Open Polo Championship is currently underway, as six teams compete for the Emilio de Anchorena Cup.According to My Buenos Aires Travel Guide, this tournament is the first of three in the official polo season, known as the Triple Crown.The matches, which began on Tuesday and run until the finals on October 11th, feature eleven of Argentinas twelve players with the highest handicaps.Each team must have a handicap of at least 10 goals to qualify, making this tournament a match of some of the best polo teams in the world, played in a country that really appreciates its polo and its horses.Depending on the match and the seats, tickets cost between 25 to 200 pesos; the next game is September 27th.
