Recoleta cemetery was named one of the five best cemeteries in the world to visit in a “best five†list by the Guardian UK.The article says the Recoleta cemetery is a “prestigious bone zone†with private mausoleums of Argentina’s rich and famous, including of course the beloved Evita Peron. The Guardian recommends seeing the cemetery as part of a three hour tour with Buenos Tours (buenostours.com), 100 dollars for three people. However, if you are strapped for cash or time, the cemetery is open all day and is free to enter.Just watch out you don’t get lost in the maze of mausoleums! The other four cemeteries given the nod were St. Mary’s in Whitby, England; Père Lachaise in Paris; Tikhvin in St Petersburg; and St Louis No 1 in New Orleans.
